I just got done celebrating the life of Roxie. She turned 90 today. She is an amazing woman who has definitely made a great wave in the world. And behind her, follows many people who respect her greatly. We hosted a birthday extravaganza in our galleries (which she is also exhibiting some of her work. Title: Roxie -Edge of 90).She is from the midwest (yesssss) and enlisted into the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC), later turned into Women's Army Corps. She was stationed in D.C. and London; her highest rank was Captain. While she was serving our country during WWII, she was on a top secret mission - going places women weren't allowed to step foot. Her and some other 30-odd women proved, using a 90mm, that women were smart, courageous, and willing enough to relieve our soldiers overseas. Afterward, she took a teaching position at Georgia Southern College (now University) as an art teacher. Roxie herself put our department on the map.
Oh the stories Roxie can tell - and oh how I'll listen. People came out to celenbrate her birthday tonight in the masses. Alumni, community members, artists ... from all over the country. I am so honored I was able to meet Roxie and make her part of my life - she is hero, an idol. Happy Birthday, Roxie.

What an honor for you to meet Roxie. Wish I was closer to attend her exhibition.
oh yes. I have been working with Roxie since I took this job. She comes in about once a week to say hi and always volunteers her time to better our department.
