Hee Hee Haw Haw

Since we're into video posting ... why not another? Here Jack is having a great time. I blew one raspberry and he couldn't get enough... except for the fact that the anticipation was enough for him. That little tyke is strong, too - wore me out.

Here Comes Jack, Again!!

Jack's 11 months old today! Holy Cow. In lieu of his monthly pictures today, we opted for a video showing off his skills of walking and being interested in things not good for babies. Monthly pictures to come.

Fearless

One can make three, if not more, observations from this video ...

1. Jack will, indeed, get more stitches in the future
2. He inherited his mothers ADHD
3. It's time to go back to school ... we are watching infomercials ...

Jack + Ps'Ghetti = Mess

Since Jack is eating more Big Boy food ... I am forced to actually cook, something I haven't really done since Bryan left - partly due to time and partly due to cooking and eating alone is lame... Anyhow, tonight we had Pesto Encrusted Chicken over a bed of Creamy Pomodoro Sauce. Yum. I went light on Jack's pasta sauce for obvious reasons.

I think he liked it.

"More Please!!"
(look at my top toofers!)

Mmmmm. Must Eat.

Double Fisting.

Ick. The chair was worse.

A New Year's with a Bang.

Jack and I both had the worst experience, ever, on New Years Eve . . . it consisted of screaming, crying, blood and an emergency room. We went to the Facchini's house to spend some quality time with the fam and so Jack could have some 'friend' time.

Adriana loves Jack and Jack loves Adriana.

Adriana, Sophie and Jack were in Adriana's room, Christine and I walked to the kitchen only for a moment before we heard a shrieking child. It was Jack. Adriana was digging on a high shelf in her closet to get some DVDs down to play for Jack. My little curious Jack crawled right up underneath her to watch. Unfortunately, a plastic drawing tablet fell from the shelf and although it didn't have a lot of substance, the corner of it landed perfectly on Jack's head.

Poor Adriana felt so bad. She already had him off the floor by the time we raced back to her room. There was so much dark red blood pouring out of his forehead. For once, I was too stunned to react. We got the bleeding to subside and saw that it was much more than a cut. Although it was not a long cut, it was a deep cut. Having no prior experience with serious cuts, Christine and I talked to a few people before deciding just to take him into the Emergency Room; to let the professionals decide how serious it was.

Good thing we did - because the poor fella needed three stitches.

Anxiety + Adrenaline + Fear + Guilt + Sadness + a Broken Heart does NOT = a functioning Steph.

The doctors 1st spoke of a staple, and the thought of a staple gun to my baby's forehead nearly made me pass out. I had to sit down. Thank goodness they opted for stitches. But I still had no idea what that meant. The doctors told Christine and I that Jack needed to be held down for the shots of Lidocaine and then he'd be given stitches. He then asked if I'd like to do it. "Do what? Me give him stitches? Of course not!" The doctor laughed ... and reworded it - would I like to hold him down?

Still no. Give me my child so I can comfort him after you inflict pain.

The next 5 minutes seemed like an hour. Christine and I clutched each other in the corner and I cried while Christine covered her mouth in horror. It was the most painful thing - to not be able to help your baby while he was screaming in pain. I could hardly catch my breath to tell him everything was going to be okay. But, the minute it was over - he stopped crying, clung to my neck and laid his head on my shoulder while Christine and I argued over who was going to pay my co-pay.

You know you have a special friendship when they stay with you at the hospital and support your family while they hurt - and then argue about money after it's all over.

Love you, Christine.

Fresh wound, after the bleeding slowed down.

Jack held a Laffy Taffy in his mouth the majority of the time in the ER. No biting, no sucking, just held it in his mouth.

A nasty mess for a 10 month old.

Doesn't seem to mind his new head gear too much.

3 stitches.

Smell ya later, 2009.

We made it back to the house by 7:30pm, had some munchies and sat on the couch, exhausted. Christine slept through midnight while Pete and I watched the Redbull No Limits Jump in Vegas. Quite anti-climatic.

12:01, off to bed.

An Arends Tradition

Every year, before heading out to the farm, my family orders pizza and opens gifts to celebrate Christmas. Which leaves us plenty of room for grazing on appetizers later that night with the rest of the big family. Even though we didn't head out to Maynard, we still ordered Gina Maria's pizza to keep the spirit alive.

Jack had his first pizza, too - he gnawed on my crust. :)
